Lock and Key |
In most popular legends, locks and keys have a sexual significance. This arises from the analogy of the union of man and woman. In fairytales, however, the key is also a symbol of revelation. In general, the dream image of a lock indicates an attitude of reserve. If the context indicates that the lock can be indicated as a symbol of the female genitals, this can be a reference to a woman needing protection or to female frigidity. The image of the key which fits the lock is an indication of the possibilities of alteration and change. As a counterpart to the lock, the key has a masculine significance. It symbolizes male strength and sovereign power. |
